Digital Magic

The picture shown above was improved with “Google magic.”  It is amazing.  The original picture, shown below, is what it looked like without modification.  Google Photos “assistant” rendered the scene above, making the greens greener and even adding highlights to the rocks that are covered with snow and ice.  The willow branches are subtly contrasted with the snowy background.  Simply amazing.  I’d say that the Google photo assistant is an example of “good quality”, I know it when I see it.  What do you think?

The Colors of the Sky

Sometime last week, I got up and I left the house a little earlier than usual.  I drove outside of town and watched the sunrise.  The transition from twilight to dawn has always been a great experience for me.  Here’s a picture of early morning twilight and the amazing colors highlighting the clouds.DSC00016-EFFECTS

Hiking Longs Peak Trail

This post is a break from Quality tools, just like Sunday’s hike was a break from the everyday.  The Longs Peak trail begins at the Ranger Station and approximately 9,400 ft (2865 m).  Today’s destination was Chasm Lake.  Chasm Lake is at 11,780 ft (3590 m) and has great views of the surrounding granite cliff walls and the northeast face of Longs Peak (“the Diamond”).

Even in early June, Chasm Lake is frozen over.  Cracks in the ice are eerily blue and a thin sheet of ice retreats from the shoreline.
